We're a city school.
Burke is one block from the Van Ness Metro (Red Line) and steps from multiple MetroBus lines. We also run morning "Burke Buses," with stops including Arlington, VA, Hyattsville, MD, Suitland, MD, and Capitol Hill. Others commute by foot, bike, scooter, and skateboard. In short, students can travel to school "on their own steam" and take charge of their days.

When you go to Burke, you really benefit from the energy and independence of being in the District.

Students make themselves at home at Burke – arriving early to work on group projects in MPR or in the Atrium, staying late for Open Studio or "production night" for the student-run newspaper, and leaving endless books and card games in the Senior Lounge. During lunch, middle schoolers can eat on the 4th floor Terrace, then run over to the the Gym for some pick-up basketball. Visual arts classes cover the walls and display spaces each spring, and music classes spill out into the 2nd floor Commons. We may not have the largest campus, but each student gets to make it their own.
