    Explore Beyond Burke
Senior Projects give students an opportunity to pursue interests beyond the classroom and to connect with communities, organizations, and workplaces outside of Burke.

Senior Projects take place over two weeks in May. Each senior project includes: clear learning objectives, 5-7 hours of meaningful work each day, contributing to, connections with, and/or engagement with the community, supervision, mentoring, coaching,and/or guidance from an expert in the field.

While many students propose a project hosted at a local organization or business, others propose an independent senior project – which does not take place entirely at one site. An independent project requires the student to take on more responsibility, independence, and planning to demonstrate that the project will meet the requirements. Independent projects include: a community contribution statement, a supervisor support statement, and a detailed two-week schedule of work.

To enhance and enrich the learning experience, students are required to document and reflect upon their experiences during the two weeks of their project.

Senior Projects conclude with a presentation to the Burke community that serves as the culmination of the senior project learning experience. It is an opportunity for seniors to reflect on their experience, synthesize their learning, and communicate it to an audience. Presentations also provide younger students with accurate and inspiring information that will spark their own enthusiasm for their senior project experience.
