Alumni Spotlights

Where the Bones Lie by Nick Kolakowski '99 comes out in March 2025 from Datura Books (a British crime imprint distributed by Penguin Random House in the US). Nick describes the novel as a "twisty California detective thriller about a burned-out Hollywood fixer." He adds, that "I owe my love of detective fiction to the Film Noir class that my dad [past faculty Paul Kolakowski] taught when I was at Burke."
A short film directed by Lena Streitwieser '22 and including a wealth of Burke talent, Pennies screened at the Alexandria Film Festival on Saturday, November 9, at 7 PM. Lena recently won Best Director - Female at the Central Coast International Film Festival in California, and is pursuing a Dual BA from Columbia University and Trinity College - Dublin.

Featuring Brent (Performing Arts), Tamika (HR), and Mónica (World Language), with an original song by Max Streitwieser '20 and music performed by John (Performing Arts), Pennies centers on a quiet bookstore owner who returns to his rural hometown after a death in the family.
